Welcome to St Michael’s, Camden Town. Our 19th century founders had a vision of a church which brought heaven to earth in worship, which brought signs of the kingdom of Christ to Camden, and which deepened the knowledge of God among its people. You will find us in the vibrant and diverse heart of Camden, welcoming people from all over London and across the world. The focal point of our life is the Solemn Mass on Sundays at 10.30am. Our worship forms us as a people in communion with those around us, responding to our communities’ needs, and always learning more about God’s ways.
We value excellent worship, beautiful music and engaging preaching in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. Faithful to the ideals of our architect, George Frederick Bodley, and our first priest, Father Edward Penfold, we seek to encounter the divine in worship that engages all the senses. As we meet Jesus in the bread and wine of the Mass we are lifted out of our ordinary, everyday existence into another sphere as we share in the life and joy of the heavenly realm.
Our worship forms us for our daily living at home and at work. Our ‘common’ work is in response to the needs of our community, working with the vulnerable and those on the margins. Some of this work we do in partnership with other agencies and charities, namely, MIND, London City Mission and C4WS. There are numerous opportunities to help us build the kingdom of God. We run a Legal Drop-In on Wednesday evenings, Homeless Drop-In on Thursday mornings and AA on Saturday mornings. We are also heavily involved in the Winter Night Shelter, providing food and place to sleep for those rebuilding their lives but who have yet to find somewhere to live.
As Christians on a journey, we seek constantly to learn and deepen our life of faith. Engaging with scripture, the ancient wisdom of the Church, and the great issues facing the world today, we listen and reflect. We try to find meaning and answers which shed light on our own lives and experience of God. We do this primarily through Sundays@12 – an informal half-hour teaching slot – and Theology in the Pub – a more in-depth discussion group held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
Are you looking for something deeper and more meaningful? Want to give something back to the community? Seeking answers to the big questions of life? Come and explore with us and be assured of a warm welcome.
